Explore the process of moving research from initial discovery through technology development, market opportunity, and venture creation. Through hands-on activities and collaboration with like-minded Lehigh doctoral students from across departments and colleges, students will use practical tools, templates, and processes to evaluate research-based opportunities, explore commercialization pathways, and develop strategies for building and advancing a new venture. Emphasis on professional skills of: communication, project management, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and networking, resilience and adaptability.

By the end of the course, doctoral students will have explored what it takes to turn research into a venture, gained hands-on experience with tools, templates and processes for moving ideas from the lab toward the market, and built a network of like-minded doctoral students from across departments and colleges.

Faculty:
Dr. Michael Lehman (MD, MBA), Senior Professor of Practice, Faculty Director of Technical Entrepreneurship, and former Provost Faculty Fellow at Lehigh University, brings a unique and interdisciplinary pedigree to the course: training as medical doctor with an MBA, work at JNJ and in hospital settings, and creator of entrepreneurship programs at three universities to support student innovators from the arts, humanities, social sciences, naturals sciences, education, business, and engineering. He is active with the LifeX accelerator program as both an entrepreneurial lead and guest expert, providing commercialization and go-to-market guidance for life sciences companies. Dr. Lehman holds a BS from Juniata College, an MD from the Penn State College of Medicine, and an MBA from the University of Leeds in England.
